Sherri Steward

Sherri Steward served as liaison for families of MIA and KIA soldiers in

Korea, and as the only non-veteran member of the 2018 National Korean

War–Korean Defense Mission and Vision Committee. As a member of the

National and Chapter 215 Korean War Veterans Association, she served as

funding chair of the Korean War and Korean Defense Veterans Memorial in

Arlington, Texas. Sherri and her son, David Steward Sessions, were honored

to be chosen to carry the banner for veteran families in the Seventieth

Anniversary of D-Day Parade in Sainte-Mère-Église, France.

Sherri has dedicated much of her life to teaching young people about the

sacrifices made for democracy and freedom. As a result of her work with

students, she was the recipient of Disney’s Outstanding American High School

Teacher and the Texas Veterans Commission, Outstanding Texas Teacher

Award. She has appeared on radio and television broadcasts and in the Korean

documentary Back to Korea, Their Last Return. Sherri has made public

appearances on behalf of veterans throughout Texas and Korea.

As an avid adventurer, Sherri summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa,

completed the Inca Trail, and has been scuba diving around the globe.

She has competed in six National Track & Field Championships and five

marathons. An ardent supporter of the sciences, Sherri served as Scientific American

Frontier’s Teacher Ambassador, working with actor Alan Alda and world-

renowned biologists in the Galapagos Islands. She has worked with Dr. Biruté

Galdikas in Borneo and Dr. Jane Goodall in Africa, and has completed

many humanitarian projects for veterans and schoolchildren around the globe.
