Sherri Steward served as liaison for families of MIA and KIA soldiers in
Korea, and as the only non-veteran member of the 2018 National Korean
War–Korean Defense Mission and Vision Committee. As a member of the
National and Chapter 215 Korean War Veterans Association, she served as
funding chair of the Korean War and Korean Defense Veterans Memorial in
Arlington, Texas. Sherri and her son, David Steward Sessions, were honored
to be chosen to carry the banner for veteran families in the Seventieth
Anniversary of D-Day Parade in Sainte-Mère-Église, France.
Sherri has dedicated much of her life to teaching young people about the
sacrifices made for democracy and freedom. As a result of her work with
students, she was the recipient of Disney’s Outstanding American High School
Teacher and the Texas Veterans Commission, Outstanding Texas Teacher
Award. She has appeared on radio and television broadcasts and in the Korean
documentary Back to Korea, Their Last Return. Sherri has made public
appearances on behalf of veterans throughout Texas and Korea.
As an avid adventurer, Sherri summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa,
completed the Inca Trail, and has been scuba diving around the globe.
She has competed in six National Track & Field Championships and five
marathons. An ardent supporter of the sciences, Sherri served as Scientific American
Frontier’s Teacher Ambassador, working with actor Alan Alda and world-
renowned biologists in the Galapagos Islands. She has worked with Dr. Biruté
Galdikas in Borneo and Dr. Jane Goodall in Africa, and has completed
many humanitarian projects for veterans and schoolchildren around the globe.
